SELLERSBURG, INDIANA – Weathers Pediatric Therapy, a children’s clinic offering ABA, occupational therapy, and physical therapy, closed unexpectedly over the weekend, the News and Tribune reported Oct. 28. The closure affected the clinic’s 14 employees and interrupted care for the families it served, the paper reported.
Owner Shyla Thomas texted staff on Friday that the clinic would close permanently, according to the paper. One parent received a patient-portal message on Sunday that did not explain the closure. Another mother said she learned of it from a former therapist and posted about it on Facebook.
“No one phone call, text, or explanation from the company or its owner to us,” parent Cindy Perkins said, according to the News and Tribune.
A New Clinic on Indiana Avenue
The clinic sat at 326 N. Indiana Ave. in Sellersburg, a Clark County town north of Louisville, Ky., with 9,362 residents in the 2020 census. Federal records show the clinic was assigned its National Provider Identifier, the ID used on insurance claims, on Nov. 10, 2025. A job ad it posted that month called it “a new multidisciplinary clinic.”
The News and Tribune identifies the owner as Shyla Thomas. The federal registry lists Nashyla Thomas as the clinic’s authorized official, with the title “Owner,” and the clinic’s website names its founder as Shyla Weathers. BreakingNewsABA could not confirm which name she uses professionally.
The registry record lists Behavior Analyst as the primary provider classification, along with speech-language pathology, pediatric occupational therapy, and pediatric physical therapy.
Thomas told the paper she spent two months readying the building and named the clinic in memory of her brother, who she said died in a 2023 car wreck.
The Owner’s Account
Thomas told the News and Tribune that the clinic’s monthly rent was $8,000 and that insurance claims were stalling.
“I added on two new staff members in May, and all their patients followed them because they’re amazing therapists,” she said. “But the claims get stuck, because now it looks like they’re being treated at two different places.”
Her explanation could not be independently confirmed, and the report did not identify the insurer or the type of therapy involved.
“I am the last person who wanted to see my clinic close,” Thomas said.
Parents Describe Disruption and Few Options
Perkins described the closure as a blow to staff and families alike. “Just like that, dedicated RBTs and BCBAs were left without jobs, and families like ours were left without services,” she said.

Parent Steven Miles told the News and Tribune that earlier warning would not have solved the harder problem of finding another provider. “As a parent, she could have notified us months ago, and it wouldn’t have made a difference,” he said. The newspaper framed the parents’ anger as part of a wider frustration with ABA waitlists.
“It wouldn’t have made a difference because, again, you cannot get your kid into somewhere else that quickly,” Miles said. He said he hopes the closure draws the attention of state, federal, and local lawmakers. “There’s not enough services,” he said.
Indiana’s ABA Rate Cuts
The clinic’s website says it accepts “all major commercial and Medicaid insurances in the state of Indiana.” That does not show whether Medicaid claims were among those delayed.
Separately, Indiana Medicaid cut maximum fees for nongroup ABA services 6% for dates of service on or after April 1, 2026. An additional 4% cut, covering both individual and group ABA services, is scheduled for April 1, 2027. No link has been established between the rate changes and the closure.
In the Oct. 28 report, Thomas said parents would be able to get their children’s therapy records in the following days.
