Marla Root is a guest contributor to Breaking News ABA and a longtime advocate in the autism community. Her experience spans multiple perspectives, including as a consumer of services, an administrator for a large service provider, a parent, and a public policy advocate.

Marla was named the 2010 Advocate of the Year by the Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities and served for many years as Public Policy Chair for the Autism Society of Ohio. She is also the parent of Eli, a 20-year-old who is significantly impacted by autism and intellectual disability.

Throughout her career, Marla has worked closely with families, advocates, state agencies, and legislators to improve access to the supports individuals and families need to live safe, meaningful lives. She has advocated for hundreds of individuals and families and continues to work toward improving ABA funding and service delivery systems.

Marla has also helped develop a range of programs and services, including an adolescent educational program, a mental health community center serving individuals with autism, a residential treatment center, and vocational services. These programs utilized the principles and procedures of Applied Behavior Analysis.
